Tips for traveling to snowy region?

I am going on a business trip to Canada, according to weather report, it will be snowing there and it will be -6 Celcius. I have never been to a snowy place, is there anything I should be aware of, like what kind of shoes to bring, and what kind of jackets to wear? I will also be using a rental car, anything I should pay specific attention to?
